About this event

A conversation about emerging engineering complexities.

In the midst of a market energised by once-in-a-lifetime growth, data centre facility design has come to a fork in the road.

In one direction, demand is being driven by business-as-usual facilities to meet the sorts of IT loads to which the industry is already accustomed. In the other direction, the spectre of AI looms large and with it, a host of new opportunities associated with high power density racks to provision advanced and power-hungry AI workloads.

Opportunities for electrical and mechanical design

Engineers responsible for mechanical and electrical designs have always had to factor in uncertainties regarding IT innovations and the impact on the power and cooling systems over the 15 - 20-year facility lifecycle. Today, AI has made many existing design approaches obsolete.

While the hyperscale community has their own designs and ways of building data centres to meet their requirements, the question is how can e.g. wholesale and colocation service providers provide for AI requirements? And how can they do so meeting a range of demands such as scalability, adaptability, availability, efficiency and sustainability?

Join the conversation

Join us in the Turing Lecture Theatre, at the IET London WC2R 0BL on 26th September at 6.30pm for a rigorous panel discussion of what AI really means for data centre design. Guests will include Zahl Limbuwala, Operating Partner at DTCP, Andy G Lawrence, Executive Director at Uptime Institute, Ed Ansett, Founder and Chairman of i3 Solutions Group and Luke Neville, MD of i3 Solutions Group.

Following the panel, we’ll be hosting networking drinks so make sure to stick around!
